National Ice Cream Month

It was probably about 1970 when I first read the book "1984". In the years leading up to the titular date, we speculated whether we would be a part of the dystopian society it describes - fortunately, it didn't happen. Now some wonder if Orwell just got the date wrong and those challenges still lie ahead.
INSTEAD, 1984 brought one of the most significant positive events of modern times. On July 9, 1984, President Ronald Reagan issued Presidential Proclamation 5219 that designated July as National Ice Cream Month (and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day). The proclamation begins with these words: "Ice cream is a nutritious and wholesome food, enjoyed by over ninety percent of the people in the United States. It enjoys a reputation as the perfect dessert and snack food." Amen.
Whether you are impressed or not with the other actions and events of the Reagan presidency, you have to admit that this single contribution should label him as one of the great holders of that lofty national office. (If you don't agree with that, perhaps we shouldn't be friends... 😃 )
But as for me and my house... we #GiveThanks for the reminder and opportunity to support and sustain our leaders as we celebrate the entire month "with appropriate ceremonies and activities."
