Blue tape and safeguards

Blue painter's tape has to be one of the great conveniences of modern times, largely unappreciated except by those who have learned of its benefits. Apparently it was invented about 1925 to help workers who were painting cars but having trouble with traditional tapes. The new tape was created with pressure-sensitive adhesive and sharp edges to help make well-defined lines when painting. It's easy to tear, easy to apply and remove without causing damage, and inexpensive. And it's so essential to quality painting!
It's tempting sometimes to shortcut the process and just try to paint edges carefully. But most painters have learned that the time and effort to apply the tape is almost always readily repaid, and the quality of the result is superior. Drips can happen unexpectedly, or the bristle of a brush can stray past a desired line. Simple mistakes require repair and retouching. Taking a few minutes to apply the tape allows you to do the painting so much more rapidly!
There are times when we take safeguards in our lives that may not be completely necessary, but are nonetheless wise and worth the effort. We should not hesitate to invest time in setting boundaries or establishing protective measures to keep us from straying beyond the mark. The quality of the result will justify the effort.
I #GiveThanks for simple innovations like blue painter's tape that make my life easier. Personally, I need all the help I can get to do a quality job!
