Key lime: taste and flavors

Today will not be a profound metaphysical insight or a thought-provoking analogy to life. I just want to #GiveThanks for a flavor ingredient I adore: the Key lime.
"Key limes" are native to southeast Asia; they are smaller, more acidic, and stronger in aroma and flavor than the "Persian lime" or "Tahitian lime" variety more commonly sold in grocery stores. They were introduced in the late 19th century into the region known as the Florida Keys where they thrived, and from which the name derives; they are also known as "Mexican limes" since many are grown there, as well as in Central and South America.
While the origin of "Key lime pie" is somewhat debated, for many people (including the present author), it approaches the ultimate in dessert deliciousness. This concoction of sweetened condensed milk, sour cream, and the limes brings together tartness and sweetness in a perfect blend. Marketing geniuses have found ways to take advantage of people like me who adore this flavor by trying to recreate it in other treats. The Ben & Jerry's KLP flavor was one of my most favorite EVER, and I almost sued the company for inhumane cruelty when they stopped making it (it was a "limited batch" flavor for some idiotic reason). This spring, I was delighted to learn that both KitKat bars and M&Ms had limited-release versions of the flavor, and I went to considerable length to obtain them - totally worth it.
In general, what a blessing to have such rich and varied flavors in this world that we can enjoy! What a miracle that our taste buds can distinguish so many variations! And what a blessing that there are people creative enough to discover how best to present these wonderful flavors to our palates! We truly are blessed to not only eat for sustenance and survival, but also for ENJOYMENT.
