Sweetheart


It's a blessing to have a sweetheart. I had a good portion of my life when I didn't have one. I #GiveThanks for the privilege of sharing life - family, service, recreation. What a privilege and blessing!

  There's a principle of persistence that applies to climbing mountains, but also to many other aspects of life. We all get tired, we "run out of gas," we get frustrated with delays, we despair of reaching our goal, we think the job will never end, we keep waiting for the weather to improve, we become frustrated with "enduring." We give up, and we probably never know if we stopped just short of the point of significant achievement. The most growth often comes at, and after, that point of fatigue.   What do you see when you look at this photo? Well, it depends. For many of us, it's just a pretty photo of red cliffs against a pretty blue sky. But a photographer might see an opportunity to adjust aperture, f-stop, and ISO to optimize how he captures the scene. A geologist might see hundreds of millions of years of history, with sedimentary layers of sandstone and limestone and evidence of millenia of erosion. A rock climber might see several 5+ pitches and a number of intriguing potential climbing routes. A traveler might see similarities to formations previously viewed in Zion National Park. A painter might see a challenge to recreate the variety and subtleties of colors and shadows in the scene. A botanist might see a surrounding forest of juniper, pine, manzanita, and Arizona cypress. Unexpected blessings - return from Argentina

  Christmas Party, 2019, Buenos Aires Have you ever been blessed in ways you don't expect? or found the proverbial "silver lining" in the clouds of a stormy and challenging time? Bonnie and I were called to serve an 18-month humanitarian mission to Argentina, that we expected to extend from September 23, 2019 to March 23, 2021. We served in Argentina for exactly six months, until March 23, 2020, when the COVID pandemic sent us home to continue our mission remotely. We were frustrated and disappointed to leave the country, naturally. But we have worked hard from home and feel we contributed greatly to the humanitarian relief needs in Argentina during the challenging time. Meanwhile, we've begun to notice that there are reasons to count our blessings that we are in Utah instead of Argentina during this time, many of them related to unexpected medical concerns.
